best tourist places for family vacations in the india

Hello Friends

1.    COORG
"Coorg is nature's haven. A place to relax and get away from the hassles of life," says HolidayIQ traveller Shobha from Kochi. It has everything you need in a relaxed holiday. Pleasant weather and yummy coffee - just the ingredients you need to curl up with a book and relax. Since it is well connected to cities like Mysore and Bangalore, reaching there is not a problem for women travellers. Moreover, Coorg has a large number of homestays, which are perfect for women travelling alone. Some well known ones offer great hosts, good food and a chance to experience Coorg like a local. HolidayIQ traveller Riccha Kumar from Delhi suggests, "Go river rafting in Cauvery, which beats rafting in Rishikesh! Do taste some Coorg coffee. My advice is, try and find a hotel in the outskirts of the town in places like Hallimane."

2.    OOTY

An idyllic hill station sprinkled with beautiful gardens, sparkling lakes, with some locally made chocolates and tea thrown in, gives you Ooty. All you gals who haven't been to Ooty, you will love it! Just like the romantic novels we read as teenagers or the movies we watched growing up - it is a magical world, more so for travel. A tourist-friendly town, women travellers have so much to explore here - Botanical Gardens, Nilgiri Mountain Railway and the Ooty Lake. HolidayIQ traveller Shubha from Bangalore believes that Ooty's "tea estates, lofty mountains and clean air makes it the place for nature lovers." Also, according to HolidayIQ traveller Sony from Chandigarh, "when visiting Ooty alone, the best way to explore the hill station is on a cycle."

3.    MUNNAR

For women looking for a dreamlike vacation where gardens with tea leaves glisten in the sun, mornings begin with clouds drifting into your room and where life has a different momentum to it, Munnar beckons. Locals are friendly and travelling within the town is cheap. HolidayIQ traveller Urwashi from Mumbai says, "It's not just Munnar but the journey to Munnar too is a spectacular experience." Go here for its scenic beauty and "visit its tea gardens and tea factory where you will get nice flavoured tea and coffee," says HolidayIQ traveller Shwetha from Mumbai.

4.    MANALI
Not just a place for honeymooners and families, Manali is a great place for solo women travellers, especially adventure enthusiasts, to ski, trek, paraglide and river raft. HolidayIQ traveller Sujatha from Chennai believes it "is the place for adventure sports." There is so much women can discover in Manali, however, HolidayIQ traveller Vidhya from Bhopal adds, "There is a local dish called 'seethu' like 'momos', which are available on Mall Road. Try it!"

5.    PURI

Those seeking some spiritual intervention can visit the Jagannath Temple first. Then, with your friends, hit Puri's beach and indulge in some water sports. And if you are a surfing enthusiast, there are local schools along the beach that offer surf boards on rent. A predominantly religious town, Puri is considered to be a safe place for women travellers. HolidayIQ traveller Soumya sums it up and says, "It is fantastic place to be. People are nice, food is tasty, especially sea food. Local handicrafts stalls at the beach sell great souvenirs."

6.    WAYANAD
If you aren't into 'relaxed vacations' Wayanad is just the place for you. It's brimming with energy unlike cities. Blessed with nature's best - the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, Chembra Peak and Edakkal Cave, there are many attractions Wayanad boasts of. Do some wildlife spotting or climb a hill, will ya? Reaching Wayanad is convenient as it is well-connected to Kozhikode, Kannur, Ooty and Mysore. HolidayIQ traveller Arundhuti from Bangalore avers, "There are three things to do in Wayanad - trekking, trekking and trekking."

7.    JAIPUR

"It encompasses India's culture and heritage beautifully," says Pratima from Delhi. At Jaipur, we bet, you won't get enough of the beautiful havelis and heritage structures, and of course shopping. The legendary Johri Bazaar for your jewellery fix and the street markets that sell the finest bandhni fabric and colourful textiles will make your Jaipur experience anything but jaded. When it comes to hospitality, nothing can beat Rajasthani locals. Pamper yourself with Rajasthani hospitality and of course, the food! HolidayIQ traveller Sakeena from Aligarh recommends "the 'lassi', 'masala chai' and 'kachori' from a shop near Hawa Mahal."

8.    PONDICHERRY

If the French experience is what you seek, then Pondicherry fits the bill perfectly. Women travelling alone or in a group have Auroville to visit where some meditation and pottery shopping will leave you happy and glowing like never before. The food at restaurants in French Colony in Pondicherry will satiate your stomach and soul and Pondicherry's Promenade and Auroville's beach will make sure you go back, hungry for more. HolidayIQ traveller Preeth from Bangalore believes "it is a brilliant place to be in. I enjoyed the place, the beach, the food and the people. There is a lot to experience, especially French culture.”

9.    MAHABALESHWAR

HolidayIQ traveller Vrushali from Pune calls it "the Kashmir of Maharashtra." A quick getaway from Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar's peaceful aura is for all those women folk looking for a break from work, home or both! Getting to the destination is easy and safe, there are numerous attractions to explore and it offers delicious treats you can take back home - fresh honey, milkshake mixes, fresh cream and fruits. Just what you expect from a short weekend getaway!

10.    CALANGUTE

Armed with loads of sunblock, flip flops and your BFFs, Goa is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday with your girl gang. There is the beach, beach shacks and varied restaurants offering scrumptious food, and of course nightclubs, where you can party all night. "This place is a paradise for free-spirited souls. All you need is bag pack, a camera and the urge to travel to Goa," says HolidayIQ traveller Roshni from Bangalore. Goa is known to be safe for women travelling alone. Indulge!
