Bollywood Celebrities Who have been Accused of Rape
From time to time famous tinsel town stars hit the headlines, either for good reasons or for playing baddies in their real lives. From getting physically abusive with their partners  to connections with the underworld, and cheating on their better halves, Bollywood men often find themselves on the wrong side of the law. This time also, some Bollywood folks have made headlines for all the wrong reasons. These celebrities have defied laws by defiling a woman’s honour.
Yes, we are talking about those who have been charged with rape or sexual assault. While some have been proved, others have been falsified, and some are just new and still waiting a definite verdict. Here are few such B-town celebs who have been charged with rape and sexual assault in the past and in the present.

Ankit Tiwari

The 24-year-old playback singer who swayed everybody with his melodious track, ‘Sunn raha hai na’ from Aashiqui 2, was arrested for rape on May 8, 2014. It was after a 28-year-old advertising professional filed a complaint alleging that Tiwari raped her on several occasions since July 2013, under the pretext of getting married.
The music director has been booked under Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The singer has been remanded to police custody till May 26.

Inder Kumar

Does the name Inder Kumar ring any bell? He is the one who played Salman Khan’s brother in the movie, Wanted. Kumar too is in hot waters after a 23-year-old aspiring actress accused him of rape and assault. According to the model, the actor promised her that he would help her in getting lead roles in Bollywood films, and asked her to stay with him in his Versova flat. After which she was confined and sexually assaulted for two days. She also stated that Kumar raped her thrice in a month.
The model was not just raped, but also tortured for three days, as police reports said that there were burn marks on her neck and shoulder, along with bite wounds and knife injuries. Clarifying his stance, the actor has said that it was indeed a consensual relationship, and there was no abuse involved. However, even the medical report has confirmed the allegations. Kumar was arrested and has been booked under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 324 (causing grievous hurt), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Subhash Kapoor

Jolly LLB director, Subhash Kapoor, also shared the limelight with these stars when a journalist-turned-actress Geetika Tyagi accused him of molestation. According to the actress, the incident took place at her residence, on May 28, 2012. But she did not file the complaint then, due to the lack of evidence, and also because, as Geetika says, "His wife Dimple begged me to let go of the matter saying that not only would their lives be ruined, but also the future of their son.” But when her “anger and helplessness got unbearable” she decided to come out in the open.
The actress, along with her boyfriend, Atul Sabharwal, recorded a video where Kapoor admitted of the act, in front of his wife. She uploaded the video on social networking websites with the caption, “Subhash Kapoor’s True Face”.
She also explained her intention behind the video, as a way to warn those who might be gullible enough to fall for men like Subhash Kapoor.

Dibakar Banerjee

Director of acclaimed films, like Khosla Ka Ghosla and Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Dibakar Banerjee also faced similar molestation charges from former friend and actress Payal Rohatgi. According to Rohatgi, her “mentor” dropped by her house one night and commented that she had gained weight. She added, “He asked me to lift my shirt and show him my stomach. I didn't like it. I told him I was in no mood for jokes. But he did not agree.”
The actress also said that when she refused to do what he asked, he nixed her from his film,Shanghai, for which she had auditioned and also received a “positive feedback”. However, the director had a different story to tell, "I spoke professionally, saying that she would need to shed weight if she wanted the role. There was no demand from anyone that she lift her top.” However, the controversy soon faded away and both went their separate ways.

Shiney Ahuja

In 2009, when Shiney Ahuja made the headlines for raping a maid, it shook the entire film industry. No one, even in their weirdest dreams, thought that such a renowned and talented actor could commit such a heinous act. The star was arrested after his 20-year-old maid accused him of raping her. The medical reports also confirmed the act.
The maid even said that actor had kept her confined in his flat for nearly two hours, and had even threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident. Though Ahuja initially denied the crime, he later confessed to it. In 2011, the actor was convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. But later, he was released on bail.

Madhur Bhandarkar

The National Award-winning film director, Madhur Bhandarkar, landed in troubled waters in July 2004. A struggling actress, Preeti Jain, filed a complaint accusing him of raping her 16 times between 1999 and 2004. She stated, "We had sex 16 times, and Madhur made promises of giving me a lead role in his films. However, he didn't offer me a lead role in any of his movies. At times when I refused, he raped me."
But later, when nothing substantial was proved and Jain too was not interested in pursuing the case after nine years against Bhandarkar, the Supreme Court dismissed the rape charges against the filmmaker.
